Procedure to assess speeding problem in the neighborhood: Close Window
Based on the results the options are as follows:
  • 1. An informal meeting of the city of Roswell transportation committee occurs which is open to public.
  • 2. A petition process would be initiated by director of transportation.
  • 3. The speed study will determine who would be immediately affected by the speed humps and only those people will vote on whether or not speed humps should be put into place.
    • a) 65% of the those chosen to vote (as determined by the study) need to vote "Yes" for the speed humps/bumps for it to pass. If a person is determined to be affected and doesn't vote, that vote is counted as a "No".
      • If approved, the petition goes before the city council meeting with the mayor. They have to vote on it as well as the city needs to provide funding.
      • Cost is $2500 per hump, and two humps are needed to cross the street (total cost $5000/hump). The placement and number of the speed humps are determined by the speed study. The city will cover half the cost, the neighborhood is responsible for the other half.
    • b) If 85% of cars are going 6 mph over the posted speed limit, then the director can provide a permit for right of way signs (Lake Forest has some and Willow Springs has solar powered speed indicator signs).
      • Lake Forest type signs cost $400.00, and the neighborhood is responsible for all cost. The city can assist us in finding a vendor and installing it (no charge).
      • Other type of sign (solar powered speed indicator): $4000.00 for solar powered, The neighborhood would hire and contractor or install ourselves.

In Street.

The in-street sign to the left are the signs we are having installed soon. We are working with the city of Roswell to find the best placement based on the speed study outcome.

The HOA plans to incorporate the solar powered signs shown on the right as our budgeting allows in the future.
